Living World Season 1

Wiki ↗

With Zhaitan fallen, a string of seemingly unconnected disasters across Tyria hints at a single hidden mastermind.

Story acts

  • Act 1: Flame and Frost
  • Act 2: The Aetherblades and a Hidden Hand
  • Act 3: The Tower of Nightmares
  • Act 4: The Battle for Lion’s Arch

Summary

Living World Season 1, "Scarlet’s War," follows the aftermath of Zhaitan’s death as a web of raids, pirate attacks, and festival bombings destabilizes Tyria. Behind them all is Scarlet Briar, a rogue sylvari who turned from the Dream to forbidden knowledge and forged the Molten Alliance, Aetherblades, krait, and Inquest into a single war machine. The campaign climaxes in the devastating Battle for Lion’s Arch, where the Commander kills Scarlet — but her true goal was to drive a drill into the ley line beneath the city, an act meant to wake a slumbering Elder Dragon. The season also introduces the Commander’s lasting companions: Braham, Rox, Kasmeer, and Marjory.

Act 1: Flame and Frost

Charr and norn refugees flee mysterious raids in the northern Shiverpeaks. The Commander and the young norn Braham uncover the Molten Alliance — an unnatural union of Flame Legion and dredge — and destroy their underground weapons facility.

Act 2: The Aetherblades and a Hidden Hand

Aetherblade sky-pirates under Mai Trin strike festivals across Tyria, and a mysterious sylvari hijacks Queen Jennah’s Watchknights. At the close of the Queen’s Jubilee the saboteur reveals herself as Scarlet Briar, a brilliant, unhinged sylvari orchestrating the chaos.

Act 3: The Tower of Nightmares

A toxic tower erupts in Kessex Hills as Scarlet allies the krait and the Nightmare Court, poisoning the land. The Commander’s new companions — Kasmeer, Marjory, Braham, and Rox — help craft an antitoxin and topple the tower.

Act 4: The Battle for Lion’s Arch

Scarlet’s army and a colossal drill assault Lion’s Arch, forcing a desperate evacuation. The Commander leads the counterattack and slays Scarlet — only to learn too late that her drill was never meant to take the city, but to bore into a ley line buried beneath it.

Living World Season 2

Wiki ↗

The drill beneath Lion’s Arch has stirred something vast in the Maguuma jungle, and Tyria’s leaders must unite before it fully wakes.

Story acts

  • Act 1: Gates of Maguuma
  • Act 2: The Dragon’s Reach
  • Act 3: Glint’s Legacy
  • Act 4: Point of No Return

Summary

Season 2 reveals that Scarlet’s drill awakened Mordremoth, the Elder Dragon of plants and minds, whose vines now ravage Tyria along the ley lines. The Commander gathers the world’s fractured leaders at the Pale Tree while uncovering Scarlet’s research and the Eternal Alchemy. A central thread is Glint’s last egg — stolen by Caithe — and the shattering revelation that every sylvari was made to serve Mordremoth. The season ends as the Pact’s airship fleet sails to confront the dragon directly, leading straight into Heart of Thorns.

Act 1: Gates of Maguuma

Mordrem vines erupt along the ley lines and overrun Brisban Wildlands. Searching Scarlet’s hidden laboratory, the Commander triggers Omadd’s machine and glimpses the Eternal Alchemy — and the truth that Scarlet’s drill woke the jungle Elder Dragon Mordremoth.

Act 2: The Dragon’s Reach

The Commander rallies Tyria’s leaders to a summit at the Pale Tree as Mordrem assault the Grove. Rytlock Brimstone attempts to break Ascalon’s ghostly curse and vanishes into the Mists during the ritual.

Act 3: Glint’s Legacy

The Commander learns the dragon-champion Glint left a final unbroken egg in a Zephyrite’s care. After the Master of Peace dies protecting it, Caithe steals the egg and flees, her motives a mystery.

Act 4: Point of No Return

Memory seeds expose a devastating secret: all sylvari were created as Mordremoth’s minions, and Caithe killed her love Wynne to keep it hidden. The Pact launches an airship assault on the dragon, ending the season poised on the edge of the Heart of Thorns.

The Commander enters the dragon’s mindscape and destroys its avatar, and Trahearne sacrifices himself — channeling the last of Mordremoth’s power through the sword Caladbolg — dying as the Elder Dragon falls.

A Kryptis named Peitha has been secretly aiding them, and the Commander travels to the demons’ homeland of Nayos to back her rebellion. The arc culminates in an assault on Eparch’s citadel of Zakiros to end his tyranny.

Act 1: The Astral Ward

The Wizard’s Tower vanishes from Garenhoff, drawing the Commander into the Astral Ward — a secret order that has guarded Tyria’s wizards for millennia. As the demonic Kryptis invade from the Mists, the Ward names the Commander its "Wayfinder" to defend both the floating realm of Amnytas and Tyria.

Act 2: The Wizard’s Tower

The Wayfinder helps restore the Wizard’s Tower and rescue its wizards, Lyhr and Dagda, from Kryptis possession. When Mabon — a mursaat wizard and Zojja’s mentor — comes to aid the defense, he is possessed and sacrifices himself to save the others, devastating Zojja and the Ward.

Act 3: Into the Obscure

The Wayfinder pursues Isgarren, who is corrupted by the Kryptis general Cerus atop the World Spire. • Godspawn
  • Repentance
  • Absolution

Summary

Now called the Wayfinder, the Commander heads north to ally with the Lowland Kodan and finds three titans — Greer, Decima, and Ura — corrupting Janthir. After defeating them, a fourth titan is revealed sealed behind a Mists Gate that the late mage Mabon warded centuries ago. The Commander descends into the Foundry of Failed Creations to sever the White Mantle’s link to the gate and seal the titan threat away for good.

After Eparch’s defeat the Commander takes the title "Wayfinder" and is sent to ally with the Lowland Kodan of Janthir. Act 2: Storm Clouds over Janthir

The Commander battles two titans, Greer and Decima, who corrupt Janthir and push their influence toward the Tyrian mainland. A third, more powerful titan, Ura, commands them; despite victories the party must retreat when Ura intervenes, warning that "the door we came through sits wide open."

Godspawn

Researcher Farrah Baelseeker reveals the titans draw power from the Mists Tides, and the party assaults Mount Balrior during a break in the storm to defeat Greer, Decima, and finally Ura. Waiting Sorrow is unveiled as the ancient "Voice of Koda," and Isgarren discloses that Mabon sealed a Mists Gate beneath Bava Nisos before his death.

Repentance

Following Mabon’s memory projections through the Spectral Agony curse, the party explores the outskirts of Bava Nisos and discovers a fourth titan, Saevus Saxum, sealed within the city since the ancient mursaat–titan war. Mabon’s memories reveal he could not bring himself to kill it and imprisoned it instead, leaving the party to race inside before catastrophe.

Absolution

Livia uses the Scepter of Orr to breach Bava Nisos, which has merged with Saevus Saxum, and the party learns a White Mantle expedition unwittingly opened the titan’s Mists Gate. Inside the Foundry of Failed Creations they defeat three tormented White Mantle souls to sever the titan’s link, and Mabon sacrifices himself sealing the gate with the Scepter — ending the threat for good.
